A new style based on the transitional movement in type design of the preceding century, that led directly to the 'fat face', and novelty types of the 19th century. There are many variations of Bodoni, all by different foundries, of which the newer versions – FF Bodoni Classic and ITC Bodoni, digitised from different sizes on Bodoni's original specimen sheets – are the most respected. The characters in Bauer Bodoni are more delicately drawn and correspondingly this type produces lighter 'colour' on a page of text. Linotype Bodoni, which includes Poster Bodoni and Ultra Bodoni, is perhaps not particularly faithful to the original, but is the most widely distributed. | | |
